Sangen er skrevet av Hawaii's siste dronning, Dronning Lili`uokalani , som regjerte fra 1891 til 1893. Den er oversatt til mange språk og brukes fortsatt som "Farvel"-sang i mange sammenhenger.

And miniature lehua flowers of the uplands.
